Product Vision

The initial package, coordinated with the styling renderings, establish the basic form of the vehicle.

This is the very first image of what the designer wants the vehicle to look like. It is usually far from being totally feasible at this stage, but with the associated Stadco package support, this design can be massaged during the concept development, into the contender for production.

Alternative initial packages are considered at this time. Flexibility is important.

Package And Legal Requirements

Package is usually divided into 2 disciplines, namely "mechanical package" and "people package".

The mechanical package is mainly powertrain and suspension, and on most programmes is usually given. However, now in the advent of alternative fuels / power, the mechanical package has major influence on the overall concept of the vehicle.

The people package reflects the styling requirements and provides designated seating with occupant clearances / vision, luggage space and closures (located in conjunction with the mechanicals).

Key influences on the people package are the cowl concept (HVAC, plenum, instrument panel) and the body structure.

Factors such as crash collapse space, airbag deployment and seat belt locations are also part of the packaging.

Legal requirements are incorporated into the package and can have major influence on the concept and styling.

Marketing territories will define the regulations that are to be complied with.
